Jean Gillingwators and Vicke Selk open their studios for progressive visits in Upland and Claremont. Starting promptly at 10:30 AM, GBW members can see Blackbird Press, the Upland workshop where Jean prints limited-edition books that she also binds. Then the group will travel about a mile and a half to look at Vicke Selk’s studio in Claremont. At 11:30 AM, members of GBW will gather in Vicke’s patio to hear poets B.H. Fairchild and Maurya Simon each read two poems. Claremont poet B.H. Fairchild is the author of numerous books of collected poetry and whose latest poetry collection is The Blue Buick. Mt. Baldy poet Maurya Simon has authored eight books of poetry and the libretto for Tamar, which premiered in 2007.
After the readings, we will eat lunch and celebrate our love of books. Bring a brown-bag lunch. Beverages and dessert will be provided.
Please respond early so the hosts know how many people to prepare for: firstname.lastname@example.org or 909-560-0429, by April 22. Directions and details will be sent to those attending.
For those interested, we will hold a Chapter Board Meeting following the tour activities. Non-board members are welcome to stay. Your input is welcome in our chapter planning.
I hope you can make this event. It is the first of our series of studio visits. Please rsvp soon so Jean and Vicke and prepare.
