CALIFORNIA CHAPTER OF THE GUILD OF BOOK WORKERS
STANDARDS SCHOLARSHIP
The California Chapter of the Guild of Bookworkers will award one scholarship to attend the 2019 Standards of Excellence Seminar in Philadelphia (October 24 – 26). The scholarship will be given to a CaGBW member who is a student or early in their career in the field of bookbinding, conservation and/or book arts. An award of $1,281 will be given to cover the cost of registration, one banquet ticket and four nights at the conference hotel. Travel and incidental hotel costs (parking, phone calls, room service, etc.) are the responsibility of the scholarship recipient.
To qualify you must meet one of the following requirements:
– be a student enrolled at an accredited institution or certificate/diploma granting program providing professional level training, or receiving training through an apprenticeship or on-the-job experience in a position related to bookbinding, conservation, and/or book arts (including but not limited to papermaking, calligraphy, print making)
– be early in their career: within 5 years of completing training either through an accredited institution or certificate/diploma granting program providing professional level training, or upon completion of a traditional apprenticeship, or on-the-job training, currently working full or part time, self-employed and/or employed by another, in a position related to bookbinding, conservation and/or book arts (including but not limited to papermaking, calligraphy, printmaking)
In order to apply, please submit a one-page resume to indicate your education or training in the field, work experiences and other pertinent information. In addition, please submit a 200 – 300 word statement in response to the following question:
What do you hope to experience at Standards and how will attendance at the conference impact your career?
The scholarship recipient must be a member in good standing, or willing to become a member, of the CaGBW in order to receive the award. GBW membership is $30 for students, $85 for regular membership, plus $10 for membership in the CaGBW. See https://guildofbookworkers.org for membership.
